DESERT FESTIVAL CONCLUDES WITH A BONANZA OF EVENTS
Jaipur, 01 February: The 3 day annual Desert Festival concludes with bonanza of events on Wednesday in Jaisalmer. As in the past years the empty sands around Jaisalmer come alive withmesmerizing performances during the fest. The festival was organized by the Department of Tourism and the District Administration, Jaisalmer.
The last day of the festival started with the showcasing of village life for tourists at Kuldhara deserted village which was followed by the Camel Race at Sam Sand Dunes. Later in the evening at the same venue there were cultural performances by the folk artists, folk music and dance and a magnificent firework display for the spectators.
It is to be noted that the festival started with the ceremonial procession from Gadisar Lake to Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium. Thereafter, there the inauguration of the Desert Festival began with the Ghoomar dance. This was followed by a series of competitions like turban tying, Mr. Desert, Miss Moomal, MoomalMahendra, Moustache, among others. Later in the evening there was a cultural programme of folk music and dance at Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium.
There were competitions at Dedansar Stadium. These competitions included Camel Decoration, Shah-E-Marudhara, Tug-of-War (Indian V/s Foreigner), Women Wrestling, Camel Polo Match, PanihariMatka Race. There was also Air Warrior Drill by Indian Air Force and Camel Tattoo Show by Border Security Force. Later in the evening there was cultural programme of folk music and dance at Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium.
