Ruma Devi - At The Tribal Cultural Fashion Show, Jaipur. |
There are very few
people we come across who inspire us in such a way that that instead of someone
famous we start following them and looking up to for inspiration and career
goals. So here is Ms. RUMA DEVI- an inspiration for all and especially for women
who think there is always a way out.
Born and brought up in
a farmer’s family facing a lot of financial and personal problems her early
life was tough but she is fighter and came out stronger. She decided to work to
support her family. The best thing she knew was embroidery and sewing taught by
her grandmother during her childhood. With the help of Mahil Baal Vikas and ten
women she started working and making cushions, bags, and garments. Under the
guidance of Vikram Singh (a social activist) this group of 10 women increased
to 22000+ people.
Increasing her horizon
in 1998 she started Gramin Vikas and Chetan Sansthan (GVCS), with the motive of
women empowerment. The women in this group were well versed in some or the
other styles like patchwork, embroidery, kantha stitch, fabric printing and a
lot more. She being the President of GVCS decided and took this group to national
and internal platforms.
From Lakme Fashion Week
to local people her design and products are appreciated by all. From our
Honorable Prime Minister Modi ji to Amitabh Ji, from India to abroad she has
been spreading her charm and boldness. The best part in her personality is she
never left her roots while flying in the sky. She also actively takes part in
various social events. There are various awards and honors earned by GVCS and
her. Some of them are:
Silpa Abhimani Award by
the Govt of Shri Lanka: Promotion of handicraft
Honor by Women on Wings
Netherlands
Honor at Germany &
Singapore Fair: Promotion of handcrafted products
Nari Shakti Puruskar
And many more in line..
Her style is unique yet
traditional. Women like her are an inspiration for all. We at FashionVeda look
upto such talent and admire them. We wish her all the best and look forward to
her next collection.
